Top Fashion Trends You Need to Try This Year

James cBy James cSeptember 26, 2025

Okay, so if you’re like me, your wardrobe probably has a bunch of stuff you bought ages ago thinking it was “super in” and now it’s just… sitting there judging you every time you open your closet. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. But this year, fashion is doing some really wild stuff, and honestly, it’s kinda fun. So buckle up, because here are the top trends you might actually want to try — or at least peek at on Instagram before you decide.

    Oversized Everything
I swear, it’s like last year’s “tight is right” vibe got completely thrown out the window. This year, oversized jackets, baggy pants, even gigantic sweaters are making a huge comeback. It’s not just comfy — it’s also low-key dramatic. I got this huge blazer that literally looks like I stole it from my dad, and somehow people compliment it. Probably because it screams, “I’m effortlessly cool” while actually just being lazy about ironing. Social media is LOVING this look — TikTok and Instagram are full of these oversized aesthetic pics with coffee in hand, messy bun, very moody.

    Bold Colors Are Back
Remember when neon was a nightmare in the 90s? Yeah, it’s making a comeback. Not the “eyeball-burning neon” necessarily, but vibrant oranges, purples, and electric blues are showing up everywhere. I personally tried a neon green shirt last month and got like three compliments, and also one “Are you okay?” from my mom. But hey, fashion is subjective. A fun fact: According to some random fashion site I read (so take it with a grain of salt), brands that used bold colors in 2024 saw a 20% spike in Instagram engagement. People just love bright, happy vibes I guess.

    Sustainable Fashion
Okay, this one isn’t exactly new, but it’s bigger than ever. Think organic cotton, recycled fabrics, and vintage shopping. Honestly, I love this because it’s basically like saying, “Yeah, I look cute, but I also don’t want to destroy the planet.” I recently bought a vintage denim jacket off Depop and not only is it cheaper than a new one, but it also feels like I own a little piece of history. Plus, thrift stores are Instagram gold — people love showing off their ‘thrift flips’ online.

    Chunky Sneakers
I know, I know, you probably hate clunky shoes because they feel like you’re walking around in bricks. But hear me out — chunky sneakers are everywhere and they make even a basic outfit look like you actually tried. They’re comfy too, which is the secret reason everyone’s secretly loving them. I copped a pair that literally makes me feel like I’m walking on clouds, but also slightly like a 90s kid who hasn’t grown into adulthood yet. Bonus: they make your TikTok shoe collection videos way more dramatic.

    Cut-Outs and Peekaboo Details
This one’s kinda sexy, kinda artsy, and totally confusing sometimes. Like, why does a top have a hole there? Who knows. Fashion designers are calling it “strategic cut-outs” but I call it, “I want to wear less fabric and still charge $200 for a t-shirt.” But honestly, it’s surprisingly flattering and adds a bit of edge to otherwise boring outfits. And yes, Instagram loves it — the more random the cut, the more engagement, apparently.

    Monochrome Fits
This trend is perfect for people like me who can’t decide on colors before leaving the house. Basically, pick one color, any color, and just wear it head-to-toe. It sounds easy, but somehow makes you look super polished. I tried a full beige fit once and felt like a human latte. There’s even a weird little stat floating around online that people are 40% more likely to double-tap monochrome looks on Instagram than mixed colors. I can’t verify it but… sounds right?

    Statement Accessories
Bigger earrings, chunky chains, oversized belts — these are your friends this year. The idea is, your outfit can be basic, but if your necklace looks like it could double as a sculpture, you’re instantly elevated. I bought a giant gold chain that literally knocks over my coffee mug if I’m not careful, but Instagram loves it. And honestly, life’s too short for tiny accessories anyway.

    Y2K Vibes
Yes, the early 2000s are back. Low-rise jeans, tiny sunglasses, butterfly clips — basically everything you swore you’d never wear again. But somehow, seeing someone rocking Y2K fits feels nostalgic and cool at the same time. I tried pairing a baby tee with baggy jeans, and my friends legit did a double-take. It’s like retro and modern had a baby and that baby loves TikTok.

    Sheer Fabrics
Sheer tops and skirts are still trending, and honestly, they make layering look super fancy. You don’t have to show everything — just peekaboo hints are enough to make the outfit interesting. I tried a sheer blouse over a simple camisole and felt like I was in a fashion magazine, even though I was just getting coffee. Fun fact: brands are now releasing entire “sheer collections” just for social media photoshoots. Apparently people love seeing layers online.

    Leather, But Not Just Jackets
Leather pants, skirts, even shirts are back in style. And no, it doesn’t have to be black. Brown, beige, even pastels are in. I personally love leather skirts because they make you feel like you could walk into a music video at any moment. Also, faux leather is everywhere now, so no animals were harmed in your stylish adventures.

How to Actually Rock These Trends Without Looking Weird
Here’s the thing — trying trends is fun, but you don’t want to look like a fashion disaster (unless that’s your vibe, in which case, rock it). My advice? Pick one or two trends and work them into your normal wardrobe. Oversized blazer? Pair it with your usual jeans. Chunky sneakers? Wear them with a cute dress. Mix and match, but don’t try to do every trend at once unless you want to look like a walking Pinterest fail.

Also, don’t overthink it. Fashion is supposed to be fun, not stressful. If you feel good, you look good. And if you take a selfie and Instagram or TikTok thinks it’s fire, then congrats — you’re officially trendy.

So yeah, those are some of the top fashion trends you might want to try this year. Some are wild, some are comfy, some are totally over-the-top, but all of them have a little piece of fun in them. Honestly, fashion’s less about rules and more about experimenting, making mistakes, and laughing when your oversized pants almost trip you in public. Just remember, trends fade, but style — your personal kind of style — sticks.
